LC CUP

About the LC Cup:

The Liver Canada Young Leaders’ Committee presents, the LC Cup, in support of Liver Canada. By participating in the LC Cup, you help provide life-changing education, along with early detection and screening, for the 1 in 4 Canadians affected by liver disease. LC Cup Rules:

  1. The tournament is mixed doubles, with each team consisting of one male and one female player. In the event there are uneven numbers of male and female participants, certain teams may consist of two male or two female players.
  2. The tournament follows a double-elimination format; a team is eliminated after two losses and is guaranteed at least two matches.
  3. Paddles will be made available.
  4. Matches use rally scoring, meaning a point is scored on every rally, regardless of which team serves.
  5. All games are played to 11 points, with no win-by-two requirement; the first team to reach 11 wins.
  6. Notwithstanding the above, the Semi-Final and Final matches will be played to a score of 21.
  7. All matches are subject to an official game clock (10 minutes per game). If a winning team has not been established when the game clock expires, then the match will be established by a tiebreak.
  8. A paddle spin determines the first serving team.
  9. Serves must be underhand, with contact made below the waist, and both feet must remain behind the baseline during the serve.
  10. Serves must land diagonally cross-court, clearing the non-volley zone (“kitchen”).
  11. After winning a rally while serving, the same team continues to serve, but serves must alternate between partners.
  12. The double-bounce rule applies: the return of serve must bounce, and the serving team’s next shot must also bounce before volleying is allowed.
  13. Players may not volley the ball while standing in the kitchen, and the kitchen line is considered part of the kitchen.
  14. A fault occurs if the ball is hit out of bounds, fails to clear the net, is volleyed from the kitchen, violates the double-bounce rule, or is served illegally.
  15. Any fault results in loss of rally and a point awarded to the opposing team.
  16. Players are responsible for making their own line calls; if teams cannot agree, the receiving team gets the benefit of the doubt.
